After Success in Mouth Fresheners, Sweet Supari and Jaljeera, Satyanarayan Firm Prepares to Make a Strong Entry into the Spice Market
Satyanarayan Firm, based in Lucknow, is one of India’s most respected names in the food and consumer products industry. During its nearly 80-year journey, the company has continuously evolved with changing consumer preferences. Having started its business in the tobacco sector, the company became well known for its Kalash brand of Kali Patti tobacco. Recognizing changing market trends, it successfully diversified into the fast-growing FMCG segment by introducing products such as Sweet Supari, Mouth Fresheners, and Jaljeera, while preserving traditional Indian flavours in modern formats. The company is now preparing to enter the spice category, reflecting its expansion strategy and commitment to innovation.
According to Himanshu Khatri, Director of Satyanarayan Firm, the company entered the sweet supari market in 2022 with the launch of Kalash Sweet Supari. It also introduced a new range of mouth fresheners under the Mitthu brand, featuring four variants, including Mitthu Paan and Mitthu Thanda Paan. These products are available in ₹1 sachets and ₹5 zipper packs, making them affordable and accessible to consumers across all segments.
Himanshu Khatri explains that all of the company’s products are rooted in traditional Indian flavours but have been developed to meet the preferences and convenience of modern consumers. Whether it is plain fennel seeds or sugar-coated varieties, every product is manufactured with a strong emphasis on quality and taste. He believes that the superior flavour and consistent quality of Mitthu Mouth Freshener distinguish it from competing products in the market.
In April 2026, the company launched Chataka Jaljeera, which received a far more enthusiastic response than anticipated. Initially, production was carried out on a single machine, but rapidly growing demand compelled the company to install two additional machines within a short period. This success reflects not only the product’s popularity but also the company’s ability to scale up production quickly.
Discussing future expansion plans, Himanshu Khatri revealed that Satyanarayan Firm will soon launch a comprehensive range of vegetable spices, garam masala, and other spice products. In addition, the company is preparing to introduce a new range of ₹1 and ₹2 supari products around the upcoming Dussehra festival.
He believes that the true strength of any brand lies in its quality. Therefore, the company procures raw materials only from trusted institutions and reliable suppliers, ensuring consistent quality and flavour in every production batch.
According to Himanshu Khatri, the mouth freshener market is highly regional, with consumer preferences varying significantly across different parts of the country. The tastes preferred in Bihar and West Bengal differ from those in South India. Keeping these regional preferences in mind, the company continuously refines the taste and formulation of its products to suit local markets.
At present, the strongest markets for Kalash Sweet Supari, Mitthu Mouth Freshener, and Chataka Jaljeera are the Kosi and Seemanchal regions of Bihar. Meanwhile, Agra and Jhansi have emerged as rapidly growing markets, generating encouraging business response. The company is also receiving increasing enquiries from distributors and trade partners in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, indicating expanding market acceptance.
Considering its distributor network as the foundation of its growth strategy, Satyanarayan Firm provides comprehensive support to its business partners. The company focuses on building long-term relationships by offering assistance in marketing, branding, promotional materials, and other business development activities.
Backed by nearly eight decades of heritage, an unwavering commitment to quality, and a culture of continuous innovation, Satyanarayan Firm has successfully transformed itself from a traditional tobacco business into a modern FMCG enterprise. With its planned entry into the spice market, the company is now poised to take its growth journey to even greater heights.
