Bansi Bhai Pan Shop is not just a paan outlet, but a historic identity of Ahmednagar that has earned a special place in people’s hearts for nearly a century through its taste, quality, and tradition. Established in 1920, this iconic paan shop is still widely famous across the city for its delicious and pocket-friendly paan varieties.
Western Maharashtra Has a Strong Paan Culture Market
Ahmednagar is considered one of the largest districts in the Western Maharashtra region. This belt includes major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Ahmednagar. The entire Maharashtra region has long been known for its strong paan culture. One can find both modern and traditional paan shops here, clearly reflecting how deeply rooted paan consumption still is in this region.
In today’s era, while traditional roadside paan stalls are gradually declining, large air-conditioned paan shops are rapidly gaining popularity. The culture of families going together to enjoy paan is still very much alive in this belt. Interestingly, there has also been a major shift in consumer preferences. Compared to zarda and tobacco paan, sweet, plain, and fancy paan varieties are now witnessing greater demand. As a result, the market for paan chutneys, flavoured ingredients, and related paan products has become extremely strong across this entire region.
Recognizing this growing trend, Meenakshi Chutney Group launched the “Muskan Series” some time ago in 1 kg jar packaging specially designed for paan traders. The series includes Muskan Khas, Muskan Special, Muskan Pineapple, and Muskan Saffron flavours. These products have received an excellent response from paan sellers and are now prominently available at many paan shops across Western Maharashtra.

A Legacy Carried Forward Through Four Generations
This century-old legacy is currently being managed by Sameer Abdul Sattar. He shared that “Bansi Bhai” was actually the nickname of his grandfather. His grandfather’s real name was Abdul Qadir, but people affectionately called him Bansi Bhai throughout the locality. Over time, that nickname itself evolved into a respected brand identity.
Today, Bansi Bhai Pan Shop operates five branches in Ahmednagar, and every outlet continues to maintain the same traditional taste and quality.
“Calcutta Meetha Special” Became Its Signature Identity
Although dozens of paan varieties are available here, the most popular among them is the “Calcutta Meetha Special Paan.” This is a unique in-house recipe created by the shop itself, and it has won over countless customers. Apart from this, flavoured chocolate paan and Phool Chand paan are also in high demand.
Sameer Bhai explains that only Meenakshi Chutney is used in their highly popular “Calcutta Special,” which gives it a distinct taste and identity. Meanwhile, Phool Chand paan offers an excellent balance of sweetness and zarda. For its sweet flavour, Kashmiri Meetha is used.
Strong Quality Standards Behind the Taste
The biggest strength of Bansi Bhai Pan Shop lies in its uncompromising quality. Every ingredient used in the paan — whether it is catechu, lime, supari, Gulkand, or flavouring materials — is of premium grade.
According to Sameer Bhai, quality is always prioritized above profit, and this has been the biggest reason behind their success.
For sweet paan, the shop uses Meenakshi, Sadhana, and Navratan chutneys along with Chaman Bahar and Kashmiri Meetha. Sameer Bhai believes that the real soul of their sweet paan lies in Chaman Bahar and Meenakshi Chutney. For zarda lovers, customers especially prefer Baba-120 and Ratna-300. For Gulkand, they use the Tower brand.
Thousands of Paan Sales Every Day
Bansi Bhai Pan Shop remains crowded from the moment it opens in the morning until closing at night. The shop operates from 9 AM to 11 PM, and especially after dinner, huge crowds gather here to enjoy paan.
According to Sameer Bhai, approximately four to five thousand paans are sold daily. Their special paan stalls are also highly popular at weddings and social events.
“One Must Know How to Make Paan”
Although the paan business has seen some decline compared to earlier times, the popularity of Bansi Bhai Pan Shop proves that market challenges cannot overpower taste and quality.
With a smile, Sameer Bhai says,
“People are still passionate about paan — one simply needs to know how to prepare it properly.”
Attractive Presentation Along with Great Taste
The paans at Bansi Bhai Pan Shop are not only delicious but also visually appealing. Their presentation and packaging are so attractive that customers feel tempted to try them instantly. Many customers even get them packed to take home.
Thanks to their special packing technique, the taste and freshness of the paan remain intact for several hours.
For nearly 100 years, Bansi Bhai Pan Shop has successfully maintained this tradition of taste and trust, creating a unique identity and “swag” in Ahmednagar. That is why anyone who tastes paan here once inevitably feels compelled to return again.
